texas contractors licenseA commercial refrigeration and process cooling or heating endorsement entitles the license holder to engage in air conditioning and refrigeration contracting for commercial refrigeration and process cooling or heating within the class of license held. Air conditioning and refrigeration contracting means performing or offering to perform the design, installation, construction, repair, maintenance, service, or modification of equipment or a commercial refrigeration system, or a process cooling or heating system. A Class A license entitles the license holder to engage in each type of air conditioning and refrigeration contracting that is endorsed on the license in relation to a system, a product, or equipment of any size or capacity. A Class B license entitles the license holder to engage in each type of air conditioning and refrigeration contracting that is endorsed on the license in relation to a system, a product, or equipment of not more than: 25 tons cooling capacity; or 1.5 million British thermal units per hour output heating capacity.

let us help you get your contractors licenseApplicants must be at least 18 years old and show proof of 48 months of practical experience in air conditioning and refrigeration work under the supervision of a licensed air conditioning and refrigeration contractor within the last 72 months. Class A licenses must provide liability insurance in the amount of $300,000 and $600,000 for aggregate. Class B licenses must provide liability insurance in the amount of $100,000 and $200,000 for aggregate. An air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license must be endorsed with one or both of the following endorsements: An environmental air conditioning endorsement; or A commercial refrigeration and process cooling or heating endorsement. You also need to prove you've lived in Texas for 90 days before you apply for a license and that you intend to reside permanently in the state. More info can be found here.

Texas HVAC Contractors Exam Details

 

contractor exam detailed informationYou must first file an application with TDLR. Your application will be evaluated and if you meet all the qualifications, you will be eligible to sit for the examination. You will then be mailed a post card informing you how to schedule an examination. The exam is adminstered by PSI and offered throughout the State of Texas. Class A examinations have 120 question while Class B exams have 100 questions. Class A examinations have 240 min time limit while Class B exams have 180 min time limit. A 70% is required to pass. Texas Contractors License Reciprocity

 

contractors license reciprocityTexas has a reciprocal license agreement with Louisiana for master electricians, and with Washington and Arkansas for journeyman electricians. The agreement allows for reciprocal licensure of Texas master electricians and the qualifying persons for statewide Louisiana licensed electrical contractors only. The agreement does not allow for reciprocation of other electrical license classes, such as master sign electrician, journey sign electrician, or residential wireman. For these other electricians from Louisiana who wish to be a licensed electrician in Texas must pass the state's electrical exam and also meet all of Texas' other qualifications. For Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors, Texas reciprocates with South Carolina and Georgia.
