Residential contractors license allows any person, firm, or other organization for a price, wage or fee, to attempt to or submit bids to construct, contract, or undertake to contract or manage the construction of a single family residence. The Board requires you to have minimum business related net worth for any classification. For heavy, highway, railroad, airport, municipal & utility and building contracting it's $50,000, for light building, mechanical and electrical it's $20,000. The specialty trades are $5,000. Pre-approval is required from the board before sitting for the examination. For commercial contractors, applicants must have 5 years of experience and submit a CPA or RPA audited financial statement. A surety bond of $10,000 must also be filed. For residential contractors, applicants must have 4 years of experience and submit a completed financial statement.

After the application is approved the State Licensing Board will notify you of a testing date. The examination fee is $35 for the paper-pencil exam or $75 for the computerized exam. It will cost you $100 nonrefundable to file an application for a commercial license. The commercial license is good for one year. The residential application and license fee is $100. The license is good for one year.

A 70% is required to pass.
