Contractor must show one year of experience under the supervision of a licensed residential builder or other appropriately licensed individual in the desired classification. All applicants must submit a credit report with their application. After passing the exams, Residential Contractors are required to obtain a Surety Bond of at least $15,000. South Carolina Residential Builder Contractors Exam Details


contractor exam detailed informationAll applicants will have to pass two exams; their trade and a business and law exam. Law and Business has 50 questions and a time limit of 2 hours. There are 80 questions in this examination. You will need to answer 55 questions correctly (68.75%) in order to pass. (This passing score may change as examination performance is evaluated). You are allowed 240 minutes to complete this examination. This examination is limited to construction, remodeling, repair or improvement of one-, two-, or multi-family residences not exceeding three stories in height and/or 16 units in any single apartment building.
